About us

"Milt and Nancy are super accommodating and are willing to dream."

- Anna Pauscher Morawitz

Who we are
Milt Allen

Trying to categorize Dr. Milt Allen is as difficult as trying to describe his musical interests. An internationally recognized conductor, music educator, speaker, author and music advocate – not to mention avid adventurer – describes an individual often taking the trail less-traveled: sometimes literally! From Tanzania to Haiti to Rwanda to Compton, CA, Milt’s extensive experiences from teaching and performing music from grassroots to university levels, then creating his own non-profit: The Music Guerrilla, only begins to describe his musical passion. When not on the road himself, Milt enjoys sitting behind a piano, performing covers and originals in the Salina area.

Nancy Steele

Nancy’s interest in music began with piano lessons at age 7, grew through high school as the primary accompanist for music and drama productions, and culminated in receiving a B.A. degree in music theory and composition. Her career, however, took a different turn into the field of law where she supported intellectual property attorneys for over 31 years, utilizing her organizational skills while learning practical ones and critical thinking. Along the way, Nancy also developed a keen interest in natural holistic health and honed an intuitive talent as a hands-on energy-balancing practitioner. She continues to study the symbiotic relationship of frequencies, rhythm and texture in music, in the body, and in the whole of nature.

Our story

Milt and Nancy have been connected to each other and to Salina for their entire life. With Nancy’s family owning an expansive, beautiful property in Kansas, the idea of turning what would become Harmony Hideaway into a retreat for artists, musicians, and writers began years ago.

Upon Milt’s return to live in Salina in 2019, he lived with Nancy’s father on this property. In May of 2020, a fire took the home to the ground. It took two years to rebuild the home into the space it is now.

Once the new home was completed, Milt and Nancy decide to realize their earlier dream of creating a lodging, event, and music space, where people can “enter the house and shed their pressures.”

Harmony Hideaway masterfully combines an open floor plan with cozy spaces to work or create. Milt and Nancy take special pride in their sun room, which features floor to ceiling windows on three sides looking out into nature. The trees, ponds, and wondrous landscape on their 240 acres revitalizes them, and it is their dream to share this experience with you.
